What materials do you use to manufacture your doors?

Iron Doors: Galvanised Wrought Iron (Q235), Sand blasted and Zinc Primed Prior to Painting, 2.5mm Iron Sheet on either side of the panel, 45mm Polyurethane Core, 50mm iron tube for panel and frame

How heavy are your doors?

Iron Doors: 72kg/sqm

Are your entry doors fire rated or BAL tested?

No we have not undergone BAL testing for our Iron Entry Doors, but they are manufactured from non-combustible 2.5mm iron sheeting on the inside and outside of the panel. Check with your building surveyor or certifier.

Can Iron Entry Doors be facing the sun and exposed to water?

We don’t recommend installing the iron entry doors in instances where the entrance will face direct sun for most of the day, extreme heat can distort the steel and cause issues with the jamb.

How long have you been in business?

Zen Doors was founded in 2019, but our manufacturing facilities have been manufacturing different types of wrought iron, steel glass hinge, pivot, sliding, bifold doors and windows for over 15 years.

Where are your doors manufactured?

Zen Doors are designed in Melbourne, Australia and manufactured in two large manufacturing facilities in China. Our doors are all custom made by hand and undergo numerous quality checks and tests, we construct and hang every door prior to shipping to test hardware, mechanisms and sizes. All iron and steel glass doors are securely packed and sealed in large wooden boxes and imported Worldwide in large shipping containers.

How can I obtain a quote for a custom design or size not shown on your site?

Please send us an email at admin@zenbg.com.au with the door type, opening size and site address for a custom quote.

Do you offer installation & glazing service?

We can offer door installation in Melbourne. All steel doors/windows with single, or double glazing, low e glazing. All doors with glass have glazing pre installed and is in accordance with Australian Glazing Standards.

How do I install my new Zen Door?

As each installation will have different requirements and quality and safety is paramount, if you’re located in Melbourne we recommend using our installation service. If interstate we recommend using a qualified door carpenter to install your door. Your door will come with all the necessary hardware to install your door into our supplied door frames. View the installation guide on our website for basic instructions.

For Iron Doors there are two methods for installation, iron mounting tabs welded on the side of the iron door jamb or pre drilled mounting holes on the inside of the jamb. Please talk to your builder or installer which method will be best for your circumstances on site.

Your builder or carpenter will ensure proper installation of the jamb and hanging of the door. As both iron and steel glass doors are quite heavy, multiple people will be needed for installation.

My project is interstate, can my builder or carpenter install and arrange the site glazing?

Yes we advise you have your builder or carpenter handle the installation. We recommend also going over the shop drawings we provide with your builder or carpenter to understand the requirements prior to delivery.

What type of finishes do you provide?

We have different finishes for the different door materials. Our iron doors and steel glass doors are fluorocarbon coated.

How do I order?

You can order a hinge or pivot door by getting in touch with us and obtaining a quote. Once you have made payment we create a CAD shop drawing of your door according to the plans, dimensions and specs you provide us. This shop drawing will need to be reviewed and signed off by you or your builder/carpenter/installer prior to us constructing the door. You can expect to receive the shop drawing within 1-3 days of making payment.

At Zen Doors quality control is paramount, so each door must pass our rigorous quality assurance tests and checks prior to packing and shipment.

What is the warranty on a Zen Door?

All Zen Doors come with our 2 year manufacturers warranty. More information can be found on our Warranty page and Refund and Return Policy page.

If you have any other question please feel free to get in touch about our hinge or pivot doors here.

First, install the iron door jamb to your opening timber frame, steel frame or masonry wall structure.

NOTE: Any Iron Entry Doors that are installed not in accordance with these guidelines shall void the warranty, for example any doors secured to an aluminium frame or timber window or door frame, as these are not structural and will not provide enough support for the iron door.

Also Iron Doors must be installed setback a minimum 1-1.5 metres under roof cover/porch to be protected from direct exposure to rain and prolonged direct sunlight. Failure to follow these requirements will void any warranty claims.

The pivot doors and hinge doors, depending on size will not come pre-hung inside the door jamb. As the door and jamb together will be quite heavy (72kg per square metre) we recommend 4 people to lift the frame into place and then hang the door on the hinges or pivot pin. Other devices such as pallet jacks, lifts and dolly’s can be used as long as adequate support and protection is applied at the lifting points. We recommend all people handling the doors wear gloves to avoid marking the doors and causing any scratches.

NOTE: Hinge Doors have a lower support steel bar installed for shipment, this needs to be unscrewed prior to installation.

We have two mounting methods for the iron door jamb and your door will either have the mounting tabs on the outside of the jamb or pre drilled holes on the inside of the jamb.

NOTE: These are detailed on the shop drawing and should be positioned carefully during the design phase.

There are usually 4 mounting tabs/holes (and sometimes 6 or more depending on the size of the door).

The tabs are bolted into the structural framing from the inside of the house and the holes are bolted from inside of the jamb.

IMPORTANT – Initially, only fasten the left and right top most tabs/holes to the house framing. This is necessary to allow for some adjustment of the frame later.

IMPORTANT – Pivot Doors will most likely need some adjustments at the top pivot hinge or floor spring once the bolts are fixed. First make adjustments at the mounting tabs/holes and see if that fixes any issues with the door panel alignment. If this does not improve it then move to the top pivot hinge or lower floor spring depending on the problem.

To adjust the top hinge correctly the door panel will need to be taken off the hinge. We recommend 3-4 people to do this and wear gloves to avoid marking or scratching the surface of the door panel. Place the door panel on a soft blanket to avoid any scratches.

Sidelights and/or Transom

If you have separate sidelights you will use joining bolts to fix them to the door jamb first. Apply all weather caulking between the sidelights and the jamb before joining.
Once joined together, the whole unit is bolted to the house framing as per above instructions.

If you have a separate transom, it is mounted above the door jamb and fastened into the framework just like the door.
Install the door jamb first and then the transom.
Apply caulking to the bottom of the transom before joining to the door jamb.

With the door closed and looking from inside, check that the door is square. If it’s not, then the jamb is slightly out. You must move the bottom of the jamb to the left or right until the door lines up exactly.

Hinge Doors – Preparing Hinges

Prior to hanging the hinge door panels, make sure the hinge bearings are installed. The hinge bearing is a thick brass washer that must be in place on each hinge pin before the door is hung.

The two or three heavy hinges should receive a very light application of oil or grease on both sides before the doors are hung.

DO NOT get grease onto the painted surfaces as this can cause damage.

Hinge Doors – Hanging the Door

Lift each door onto its hinge pins. As the doors are quite heavy, (72kg per sqm) we recommend 3-4 people per door and please wear gloves if possible.

If you have a double door, after the doors are hung, use the flush bolts on the edge of the inactive door to hold it closed.

Hinge Doors – Adjustment

Even though you have checked your framing is plumb, there may be some small adjustment needed to ensure your doors are installed correctly.

For double doors if the top of the doors are not square the bottom of the door frame must be adjusted to the left or right slightly. The door tops and bottoms will line up perfectly in the centre when the frame is square.

Next check that your door closes evenly from top to bottom. If, when you close your door, the top or the bottom touches the astragal first then the jamb is slightly twisted.

You can adjust this by moving the appropriate tab inwards (towards the inside of the house) or outwards (towards the outside of the house) until the doors close evenly top and bottom at the same time.

Once everything is adjusted correctly then secure the lower tabs in place with the lag bolts.

IMPORTANT – Check the fit of the doors once again to make sure nothing moved while you were tightening the bolts.

Shipping to Australia

We design our iron hinge, pivot doors & steel glass doors and windows in Australia and manufacture in two large facilities in China. We ship our doors in sealed wooden boxes via sea freight in large containers.

Road Transport Within Australia

Once your order is available at one of our capital city depots our freight partner will call to arrange a delivery date to deliver your entry door to you via road transport.  Please contact us for a freight estimate based on your location.

Once delivery is arranged with the driver you must be at the address specified between the times allocated or arrange authority to leave the boxes in a safe area. Failure to do so will risk in further carrier charges if the truck has to return to the depot. You will be charged for the second trip.

Cost is calculated by the distance you’re located from one of our capital city depots. The further away you are from the depot the higher the cost will be as our items generally come in large plywood crates and are quite heavy. The delivery driver will only lower the crate to a flat safe location at the front of the site. It is you or your installer/builders responsibility to unpack or move the crate.

Please touch base with us for a price estimate on your delivery location.

The Warranty Period for Physical Goods purchased from Zen Doors is 2 years from the date of delivery for any manufacturing defects but excludes damage caused by incorrect installation of the product and fair wear and tear.

A replacement Physical Good or part assumes the remaining warranty of the original Physical Good or 2 years from the date of delivery.

What does this limited warranty not cover?

This Limited Warranty does not cover any problem that is caused by:

conditions, malfunctions or damage not resulting from defects in material or workmanship;

defects as a result of the installation of the product that has not been installed in accordance with our installation guidelines;

damage caused as a result of fair wear and tear;

damage caused to the product that has not been caused by any result of the manufacture of the product;

iron entry door paint finish damage, rust or deformation due to continuous water or direct prolonged sun exposure.

Iron Doors need to be installed into an entrance way which is at least 1-1.5 metres under roof cover as to not be exposed to continuous rain or direct sun. This will help protect the paint finish and integrity of the door panel and jamb. All doors are sandblasted and treated with a zinc-based primer and painted with a high zinc fluorine paint to protect against weather, but the doors are not galvanised. Weather stripping and rubber drop seals are included but the doors are not completely watertight.

Failure to follow the above guidance will void any warranty claims associated with paint finish or frame and door deformation/warping.

What do you have to do?

To obtain warranty service, you must first contact us to determine the problem and the most appropriate solution for you. If you proceed to attempt to rectify the defect yourself without our knowledge or without first notifying us in writing this warranty will be rendered void.
